I’m Seana.

I am a Reading Specialist. I teach struggling readers to decode and gain fluency using phonic based rules with fun memorable techniques and lessons. Each lesson is tailor-made using a specific sequence in order to build the skills that are needed to read as well as spell proficiently.

I also teach fluency since it is very hard to understand what you are reading if you are hyper focused on decoding each word. The truth is we aren’t born readers and some of us just need a little extra help and guidance to make a bunch of letters make sense.

Prior to becoming a specialized reading and spelling tutor I was an art director and illustrator for several years. I decided to combine my creative side with my Orton Gillingham knowledge along with the understanding of being a mom. Additionally, I am an avid rock climber, and I find that my approach to both climbing and teaching is methodical with a sense of calm.

Two out of my three kids are dyslexic as well as my husband so I can honestly say – I get it. The stress, the tears, and feeling helpless not knowing how help your child read can affect the entire family. My own experiences have given me the tools to be the best tutor that I can be and I am happy to support other kids and their families.

Hello!

Associate Level Training Course and a Member of the International Dyslexia Association.

In 2016 I completed the Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Training Course. This coursework meets the requirements of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators’ Associate Level curriculum. Upon completion I worked at Fraser Academy in Vancouver, BC Canada as a Learning Specialist. Students ranged from grade two to grade eight. I moved back to California in 2018 and started a private tutoring practice.
